Mud Rhythms came about because of my passion for both ceramics and dance.

Background

Coming from a family of artists I learned to oil paint at age eleven, however it wasn't until I entered college that I began to work with clay.  There I found a passion for working in three dimensions using several different media.  Finding clay to be the most versatile I chose to major in ceramics.  In 1998 I graduated from Southern CT State University with BS in ceramic and received the Mary Sacks Ceramics award.  I have been working as an independent artist ever since.

Artistic Philosophy

I began my career as a sculptor but found that this form of art lacked any connection with the customer.  After leaving college I started my own pottery business, specializing in one of a kind teapots.  The knowledge that something I created would be used in someone's everyday life made pottery much more rewarding for me.  I enjoy the idea that someone will begin their day with coffee drunk from a mug of mine or that someone will play a drum of mine as there friends dance around them.

Influence of Dance

Since I was a child I have always enjoyed dance and have taken lessons in ballet, jazz, and tap.  However, belly dancing has become my true love.  It is through belly dance that I have formed several long lasting friendships with other women.  It is also a very welcoming community no matter where I travel I can always find a local drum circle with open arms.
